Bright Lights handspun

from $20.00

Handspun yarn in weight 1/superfine/sock/fingering (merino/silk ply; 20 wpi) and weight 2/fine/sport (merino ply; 17 wpi). This yarn is spun from a blend of wools averaging 28 microns, and is plied with either a pure merino or a merino/silk strand. The process for creating this yarn involved randomly pulling chunks of dyed wool from a box in which I’d mixed them together, and spinning the colors as they came.

Due to the random nature of the production, attempts to replicate this yarn are likely to vary noticeably from the original. However, if you’d like a larger quantity, I’m willing to give it a shot!

This is a two-ply yarn finished with a Z twist, meaning it may feel more natural to crocheters and Continental knitters than the majority of commercial yarns - but English knitters needn’t feel left out; it can be knitted that way too! As for weaving, it would make a lovely weft and would work as warp in some pieces.

Photos are taken in natural light with as much color fidelity as possible, but please remember that screens vary, so from one device to another it may appear slightly different. However, the item variant you select is the item you will receive.

Variant options:

  • Merino ply #1: 438 yards, 84 g, $35

  • Merino ply #2: 340 yards, 65 g, $30

  • Merino ply #3: 600 yards, 113 g, $45

  • Merino/silk ply #1: 288 yards, 43 g, $20

  • Merino/silk ply #2: 540 yards, 89 g, $40

Yarn is wrapped in a hank. Caking is available upon request. All my fibers are spun and dyed in a smoke free, pet friendly home.

Care instructions: hand wash finished items in cool to lukewarm water, with gentle detergent or baby shampoo. Do not subject to harsh scrubbing/wringing or sudden temperature shocks when wet unless felting is desired. Reshape and dry flat.
