Crystal Palace Hand-Dyed Tussah Silk Top (Airships and Automata collection)
Hand-dyed tussah silk from the Airships and Automata collection. Like all silk, tussah is strong, soft, very fine, and an excellent insulator. Unlike the more popular bombyx silk, however, tussah usually has gold tones and can contain more texture.
The Crystal Palace was an amazing edifice of steel and glass, built for what was essentially the first ever World’s Fair. Since the mid-19th century didn’t run to color photography, it’s hard to know quite what it looked like all lit up at night, but I like to imagine it might have looked a little like this: A brilliant rainbow of scintillating lights. Photos are taken in natural light with as much color fidelity as possible, but please remember that screens vary, so from one device to another it may appear slightly different.
2 oz each.
All my fibers are dyed in a smoke free, pet friendly home.
If you are interested in a larger quantity or would like to purchase Crystal Palace on a different fiber base, please reach out to me! I’d be thrilled to dye up a batch to order.
