Carousel Hand-Dyed Tussah Silk Top (Airships and Automata collection)
Hand-dyed tussah silk from the Airships and Automata collection. Like all silk, tussah is strong, soft, very fine, and an excellent insulator. Unlike the more popular bombyx silk, however, tussah usually has gold tones and can contain more texture.
The very first automatic carousel was a steam-powered machine in the 1860s, and it must have been quite a sight indeed! Even to this day, a classic merry-go-round is sure to lift the spirits. This colorway celebrates this carnival institution with jewel-tone silk color repeats. Photos are taken in natural light with as much color fidelity as possible, but please remember that screens vary, so from one device to another it may appear slightly different.
2 oz each.
All my fibers are dyed in a smoke free, pet friendly home.
If you are interested in a larger quantity or would like to Carousel on a different fiber base, please reach out to me! I’d be thrilled to dye up a batch to order.
