Wool from a sheep raised and shorn in Montana, which began this phase of its life as a “project fleece” and has been processed right here. Staple length averaging about 2” (some areas as long as 3”, with some shorter than 2”), next to skin soft for some but not baby-garment-soft, for sure. Due to past battles some initial cotting, there are some small neps but in the wool I have spun from this fleece I’ve found them mostly to add character rather than irritation. This fleece has been scoured, picked, dyed, and hand-teased open. Most VM has been removed through this process, but a bit does remain.
Perfect for those interested in working with wool a bit closer to the source but not ready to dive into scouring and dyeing a fleece from the beginning! Card it, felt it, spin it up wild and rustic - the choice is yours! It’s not going to make a sleek, slub-less yarn without a lot of wastage, but I’ve spun some very fun and bouncy yarns from this fleece. One of my favorite crosses!
The immortal words of Robert Burns say “My love is like a red, red rose, that’s newly sprung in June,” and this wool has many kinds of red which a rose might well envy. Plus I’m listing it in June!
